Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Young Professional

Justdiggit is seeking a motivated Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Young Professional to join its Tanzania team. This early-career opportunity offers recent graduates and emerging professionals practical experience in monitoring, evaluation, and learning within an international environmental organization, supporting landscape restoration programmes across Northern and Central Tanzania.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in field monitoring visits with colleagues, partners, and local communities.
• Support monitoring of restoration interventions, including Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR), rainwater harvesting, and rangeland restoration.
• Collect, verify, and manage programme monitoring data.
• Monitor ecological indicators such as vegetation cover, biomass, soil and water conditions, regeneration, and land productivity.
• Assist with baseline assessments, field surveys, evaluations, and context analyses.
• Support mapping and monitoring activities using Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
• Plan and support field-level MEL activities.
• Conduct routine data quality checks using digital data collection tools.
• Compile and organize monitoring data for reports and programme evaluations.
• Maintain MEL databases and documentation.
• Support partner reporting and donor reporting requirements.
• Contribute to report writing, knowledge sharing, and documentation of lessons learned.
• Participate in partner training and learning sessions.
• Promote good Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning practices among partners and field teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Monitoring & Evaluation, Forestry, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Agriculture, Ecology, Geography, Development Studies, or a related field.
• Recent graduate or up to two (2) years of relevant experience.
• Internship, volunteer, or research experience in MEL, environmental conservation, or community development is an advantage.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Excel.
• Basic knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
• Familiarity with KoboToolbox, ODK, or similar digital data collection tools.
• Basic understanding of R, Python, SPSS, or similar data analysis software.
• Understanding of Monitoring & Evaluation principles.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in multicultural teams.
• Willingness to travel regularly to remote field locations.
• Fluency in English and Kiswahili.
