The International School of Tanganyika (IST) is seeking a Study Hall Monitor and Academic Support Aide to support Grade 11 and 12 students in Dar es Salaam.
The role is responsible for supervising and maintaining a focused, productive academic environment during students' non-class periods. The successful candidate will monitor attendance and student behaviour, encourage effective study habits, support student organization and help students make productive use of independent study time within the demanding IB Diploma Programme.
The position also serves as an important link between students, academic staff and administrative teams.
Responsibilities

Conduct mandatory attendance checks for Grade 11 and 12 students assigned to Study Hall.

Monitor approximately 60 students each day, with peak groups of up to 40 students per block.

Report unexplained student absences promptly to the Secondary Office.

Follow IST safeguarding procedures at all times.

Maintain a quiet, focused and purposeful Study Hall environment.

Monitor student behaviour and appropriately address disruptive activities.

Encourage students to use independent study periods responsibly and effectively.

Maintain an organized Study Hall environment.

Help students use appropriate individual and small-group study spaces.

Encourage productive work on Extended Essay research, Internal Assessments, exam preparation and revision.

Provide guidance on time management, organization and effective study practices without providing subject-content tutoring.

Connect students with appropriate academic and student-support resources.

Coordinate approved student movement to teacher meetings, library sessions and other authorized locations.

Work with the Secondary Librarian to help students access appropriate physical and digital learning resources.

Track Study Hall attendance, student concerns, non-attendance patterns and engagement.

Prepare weekly information and reports for relevant academic leadership.

Provide relevant information to the Secondary Vice Principal and Diploma Programme Coordinator.

Support logistics for large-scale testing activities, including IB Mock Exams.

Provide short-term administrative support to the Secondary Office when required.

Assist with preparation of materials for school events and parent communications.

Perform other responsibilities assigned by the Principal.
Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Education, Psychology, Counselling, Administration, Social Sciences, or another related field.

Proven experience working with secondary-age students in Grades 9–12 or an equivalent age group.

Experience should be in an educational, supervisory, mentoring, or similar student-support capacity.

Experience working within an International Baccalaureate (IB) school environment is a significant advantage.

Excellent organizational skills.

Strong attention to detail, particularly when managing attendance and student data.

Ability to work effectively with students, parents and staff from diverse international backgrounds.

Firm but empathetic approach to student supervision and behaviour management.
