We are seeking an Economic Specialist to join the Political and Economic Section of the U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam. The role leads economic analysis and reporting on Tanzania, covering investment, trade, mining and critical minerals, infrastructure, transportation, macroeconomic developments, and East African Community issues. The position also develops key stakeholder relationships and provides analysis and advice to Embassy leadership and U.S. Government officials.
Responsibilities

Lead research, analysis, and reporting on Tanzania’s economic developments and trends.

Monitor investment, trade, mining, critical minerals, infrastructure, aviation, transportation, and macroeconomic issues.

Support analysis of energy, agriculture, tourism, conservation, and environment, science, technology and health issues.

Develop and maintain relationships with government, private sector, academia, civil society, and international institutions.

Monitor local media and relevant political and economic developments.

Prepare analytical reports, briefing memos, reporting cables, meeting notes, and other Embassy reporting products.

Brief and advise Embassy leadership and U.S. Government stakeholders on economic issues and trends.

Facilitate official meetings, engagements, and visits throughout Tanzania.

Draft diplomatic notes and maintain relevant information on Tanzanian government officials.

Represent the Political and Economic Section at meetings, conferences, working groups, and official functions.

Support economic development grants as a Grants Officer Representative.

Support U.S. Government training and exchange programmes.

Provide coverage of other section portfolios when required.
Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Political Science, International Relations, or a related field.

Minimum 5 years of experience in private and/or public-sector economic analysis.

Fluent spoken, written, and reading proficiency in English.

Fluent spoken, written, and reading proficiency in Swahili.

Ability to translate between English and Swahili.

Detailed knowledge of Tanzania’s political, economic, and social structure.

Advanced knowledge of economic concepts and analytical methods.

Ability to develop and maintain an extensive network of professional contacts.

Strong ability to synthesize complex information into clear written and oral reports.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common digital devices.
