Zambia Cargo & Logistics Limited (ZCL) is seeking an Assistant Accountant to support the company's day-to-day accounting and financial operations in Dar es Salaam. The role covers general ledger maintenance, accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, financial reporting, tax compliance, audit preparation, and asset management.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Financial Accountant and other departments to maintain accurate financial records, support internal controls, and ensure timely completion of accounting activities.
Responsibilities

Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts and ensure financial records are accurate and complete.

Support month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries and adjustments.

Assist with the preparation of financial statements and management reports.

Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions accurately and on time.

Reconcile vendor statements and customer accounts.
-
Investigate and help resolve accounting and transaction discrepancies.

Enter financial information accurately into accounting systems.

Maintain proper documentation for invoices, receipts, payments, and other financial transactions.

Maintain financial databases, spreadsheets, and accounting records.

Prepare supporting documents and reports for internal and external audits.

Ensure accounting activities comply with company policies and applicable accounting standards.

Support implementation and improvement of internal financial controls.

Assist with VAT, PAYE, Withholding Tax, and corporate income tax compliance activities.

Prepare financial reports and presentations for management.

Collaborate with other departments to obtain required financial information.

Support asset management activities and safeguarding of company assets.

Provide general administrative support to the Finance team.
Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

CPA (T) qualification, CPA (T) finalist status, or being in the final stage of obtaining a professional accounting qualification is advantageous.

1–3 years of relevant accounting experience.

Experience in logistics, transportation, or supply chain organizations is preferred.

Knowledge of VAT, PAYE, Withholding Tax, and corporate income tax compliance.

Experience with bank reconciliations.

Experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable.

Experience preparing financial reports.

Proficiency in accounting software such as SAGE 300 ERP or similar systems.

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
