Responsible for coordinating and managing fleet managers, overseeing truck fleet operations and maintenance, improving fleet efficiency and availability, ensuring regulatory and safety compliance, and achieving transport operational targets at Dangote Industries Limited’s Mtwara Plant.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage the activities of fleet managers and their teams.
- Ensure truck compliance in terms of operations and maintenance and maintain customer satisfaction with service levels.
- Evaluate the company’s truck fleet and formulate short-, medium- and long-term plans to improve efficiency, effectiveness and economy of fleet assets.
- Inform management of actions required to reduce fleet operating costs.
- Conduct annual performance appraisals for fleet personnel.
- Supervise the use of the truck fleet and report unsatisfactory circumstances to management.
- Review, monitor and report truck asset maintenance.
- Plan and coordinate responsibilities in accordance with company policies.
- Supervise the scheduling of truck movements.
- Design and articulate the truck fleet management strategy, policies and procedures.
- Coordinate execution of the fleet operational strategy and plan.
- Monitor fleet managers’ efforts to achieve operational targets and synergies.
- Liaise with the maintenance unit to ensure trucks remain in good working condition.
- Improve fleet availability and utilization, reduce downtime and troubleshoot route deviations.
- Ensure fleet managers comply with company regulations and freight transportation laws.
- Identify operational issues and opportunities in fleet operations.
- Coordinate the return to operational condition of impounded, accidental or damaged trucks.
- Plan, develop and execute truck replacement schedules.
- Monitor developments in logistics and transportation laws and regulations.
- Identify and coordinate training needs for fleet operations employees.
- Participate in safety committee meetings.
- Prepare daily, weekly and monthly operational reports.
- Hold regular toolbox and safety meetings with team members.
- Conduct review meetings with fleet managers and establish performance goals for fleet staff.
- Develop and review truck condition reports.
- Coordinate truck maintenance concerns with the workshop.
- Ensure fleet safety compliance.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Head of Transport or management.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Transport and Logistics (preferred)
- Master's degree with specialization in Transport and Logistics (preferred)
- 25 years of related experience preferred, with at least 15 years of specific experience in transport
- Ability to operate effectively in a high-volume, service-driven transport operation
- Strong knowledge of transport fleet management, fleet maintenance oversight, scheduling and utilization
- Knowledge of transport regulations and freight transportation laws
- Leadership, people management and performance appraisal skills
- Problem-solving, decision-making, negotiation and relationship management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
