Job Description

We are seeking for a motivated and community-oriented Project Officer to lead the day-to-day implementation of programmes in Tanga Region. The role focuses on coordinating activities under GFI’s three programme pillars — Her Education, Her Health, and Her Economy — while working closely with schools, local leaders, caregivers and community volunteers to ensure programmes effectively support adolescent girls and young women.

GFI is a locally-led, women-driven organization focused on improving education, health and economic empowerment opportunities for adolescent girls and young women in underserved communities.

Responsibilities

Coordinate and oversee daily implementation of GFI programmes across schools and communities in Tanga Region.
Build and maintain relationships with Ward Executive Officers, teachers, community leaders and caregivers to identify and support vulnerable girls.
Organize and facilitate school outreach programmes, life skills sessions and menstrual health education activities.
Support distribution and tracking of scholarships, learning materials and menstrual health tools for beneficiaries.
Mobilize and support caregiver groups and women-led cooperatives, including savings groups and entrepreneurship training.
Maintain accurate records of beneficiaries, activities and programme outcomes.
Prepare regular reports for the Program Manager and Monitoring & Evaluation team.
Identify and document success stories, case studies and field challenges to support programme learning and donor reporting.
Coordinate logistics for community events, trainings and infrastructure activities.
Ensure safeguarding standards are maintained when working with adolescent girls and young women.
Represent GFI in local government and community forums when required.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Community Development, Education, Public Health or a related field.
Minimum 2 years of experience implementing community-based programmes, preferably focused on girls, gender, education or health.
Strong understanding of the local context, culture and communities in Tanga Region.
Experience working with schools, local government structures and community leaders.
Good record-keeping and basic reporting skills.
Fluency in Kiswahili is required; working knowledge of English is preferred.
Willingness to travel regularly within Tanga districts, including rural and hard-to-reach areas.
Strong commitment to girls’ and young women’s rights, gender equality and safeguarding principles.
