Accountant

A company operating within the FMCG and hospitality sector in Dar es Salaam is seeking an experienced Accountant to manage day-to-day accounting activities, maintain accurate financial records, strengthen financial controls, and support management reporting.

The position is particularly suited to an accountant with previous experience working in restaurants, hotels, bakeries, FMCG businesses, or similar high-volume operations involving inventory and cost control.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate ledgers, journals, and daily accounting records.
• Manage the company’s day-to-day accounting activities.
• Perform bank and cash reconciliations.
• Conduct supplier reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
• Perform stock and inventory reconciliations.
• Prepare monthly management accounts and supporting schedules.
• Monitor Cost of Goods Sold (COGS), inventory movements, and margins across outlets.
• Support effective cost and stock-control procedures.
• Identify financial variances and irregularities and report them with clear analysis.
• Support VAT and PAYE calculations and filings.
• Assist with TRA compliance requirements.
• Prepare financial information and supporting documentation for audits.
• Ensure accounting records remain accurate, complete, and up to date.
• Support strong internal financial controls across the business.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 3–6 years of accounting experience.
• Previous accounting experience within the FMCG and hospitality industry.
• Experience in hotels, restaurants, bakeries, or similar businesses is highly relevant.
• Strong understanding of the full accounting cycle.
• Strong reconciliation skills.
• Strong financial-reporting capabilities.
• Experience with cost and inventory control.
• Good understanding of Tanzanian tax regulations.
• Knowledge of VAT, PAYE, and TRA requirements.
• Confidence using accounting software.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good organizational and analytical skills.
• Ability to meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure.
