Reliance Group Limited is hiring a Senior Accountant for its Finance and Accounting department at the head office in Tegeta Nyaishozi, Wazo Industrial Area, Dar es Salaam. Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Senior Accountant reviews every bill, invoice, reconciliation and journal entry prepared by the accountants, prepares the monthly VAT return, produces monthly financial statements and keeps the month-end close on schedule.
Responsibilities
- Review each vendor bill for the three-way match with the purchase order and receipt, the EFD receipt, tax and coding, then post it.
- Review customer invoices before they are confirmed and sent to the customer.
- Act as second reviewer on manual journal entries, checking the support, accounts used and tax treatment, and correct errors by reversal, never by deletion.
- Review unmatched and aged bank statement lines weekly and review monthly cash count sheets for petty cash, cash in hand and M-PESA.
- Run the monthly Tax Report, reconcile output and input VAT, and prepare the VAT return pack for the Finance Manager.
- Produce the monthly Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet for each company and consolidated, and explain any variance above 10%.
- Reconcile project cost accounts monthly and report projects whose costs have no linked revenue.
- Post payroll entries and reconcile them to the payroll register before the 26th of each month.
- Run depreciation, amortise prepayments, manage fixed asset records, and prepare the monthly stock value reconciliation.
- Maintain the month-end checklist, complete the close by working day 10, and at year end prepare provisions, accruals and FX revaluations and support the external audit.
- Guide the three Accountants on coding, tax treatment and company procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field.
- Certified Public Accountant, CPA(T), registered with NBAA; ACCA with NBAA recognition is also accepted.
- At least five years of accounting experience, including at least two years in a senior or supervisory role.
- Experience in distribution, trading, agriculture, equipment or logistics is an advantage.
- Sound knowledge of IFRS, 18% VAT, withholding tax and EFD receipts.
- Experience of Odoo Accounting, including bank reconciliation, assets and reporting.
- Able to review colleagues' work carefully and explain corrections clearly.
