The Rice Council of Tanzania (RCT) is the leading apex body and Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) representing the private sector across the entire Tanzanian rice value chain. Founded in 2011, RCT serves as a coordinator and lobbyist for the rice industry, integrating all stakeholders from farmers, input suppliers, processors, and traders to financiers, researchers, and consumer organizations. Its primary focus is on strengthening the rice value chain, supporting smallholder farmers, and promoting sustainable rice systems. RCT actively implements wide-ranging projects, often in collaboration with international partners (such as the EU, USAID, FAO, and Norad), focusing on advocacy, policy engagement, market development, capacity building, and climate resilience, as evidenced by major initiatives like COMRICE, SRP, and IRVC.
