Provide strategic direction on ESG and sustainability, integrate sustainability into NBC Bank’s operations, manage DFI sustainability-linked financing requirements, lead ESG and climate reporting, and ensure compliance with regulatory and internal sustainability frameworks.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate with business heads to draft and implement the bank’s ESG and sustainability strategy.
- Set ESG and sustainability targets aligned with the bank’s strategy and international standards.
- Integrate sustainability into core bank operations and develop sector-specific sustainability strategies.
- Identify, evaluate, and oversee sustainability pilot projects and programs.
- Coordinate project proposals, grant applications, and funding documentation for sustainability initiatives.
- Manage partners delivering sustainable initiatives and conduct sustainability-related due diligence.
- Monitor and evaluate sustainability programs and prepare operational progress reports.
- Manage sustainability as a commercial business partnership while ensuring risk and sustainability considerations are addressed.
- Commission and coordinate consultants supporting sustainability initiatives.
- Provide technical support to the Sustainability Working Group Committee, including agendas, minutes, dashboards, and action tracking.
- Prepare briefing papers, sustainability insights, and performance updates for senior leadership.
- Support sustainability awareness initiatives and coordinate ESG and climate-risk training campaigns.
- Oversee sustainability-related covenants and KPIs attached to DFI financing agreements.
- Prepare accurate and timely periodic reports for DFIs and maintain a covenant tracking system.
- Lead data consolidation and disclosures aligned with IFRS S1 and IFRS S2.
- Conduct gap assessments and collaborate with departments to gather ESG and climate-related data.
- Lead sustainability data automation initiatives and support annual sustainability or integrated reporting.
- Facilitate implementation of the Environmental and Social Sustainability Framework across the bank.
- Monitor compliance with Bank of Tanzania climate-risk guidelines, national environmental regulations, and emerging sustainability policies.
- Track sustainability, ESG, and climate-risk regulatory developments and advise management.
- Represent NBC Bank’s sustainability position to external audiences and engage with senior stakeholders.
- Develop environmental and social report content and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Engage with peer banks and multilateral financial institutions on sustainability standards.
