The Head of Materials Management will lead and oversee materials management, procurement, inventory, warehousing, and supply chain operations for Aga Khan Health Services, Tanzania, ensuring efficient resource utilization and support for effective patient care.
Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and administer the operational, financial, administrative, and technical operations of materials management
- Provide strategic direction for materials and supply chain distribution functions, including inventory management, quality assurance, and value improvement
- Lead procurement of high-end medical equipment through surveys of international and local markets
- Prepare procurement and supplies budgets in line with the institutional budget
- Develop and implement strategies to reduce inventory holding and apply Lean inventory methods, barcoding, FEFO, consignment inventory, and periodic stock counts
- Implement ERP systems covering procurement and inventory modules
- Coordinate warehouse, inventory control, and purchasing functions
- Maintain optimal stock levels using minimum, maximum, reorder point, and safety stock principles
- Serve as an operational and technical resource for materials management issues and resolutions
- Prepare submissions and presentations for purchasing, product evaluation, pharmacy therapeutic, and health network purchasing committees
- Develop and maintain control systems from purchasing and warehousing through to the final consumer
- Ensure timely payment to hospital suppliers and maintain strong buyer-seller relationships
- Lead performance management of reporting staff, including guidance, goal setting, development, budgeting, planning, and performance evaluation
- Ensure compliance with departmental operational, fire, safety, infection control, and regulatory requirements
- Communicate administrative directives, organizational mission, ethics, and goals to personnel
- Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor or designee

- Master’s degree in Commerce, Business, or Materials Management
- PSPTB registration
