Tanzania Portland Cement Public Limited Company is seeking a skilled Mechanical Draughtsman to prepare and maintain mechanical, fabrication, construction, and project engineering drawings supporting plant maintenance, shutdowns, equipment installation, and capital projects in Dar es Salaam.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed fabrication drawings for mechanical components and structures.
- Develop assembly and installation drawings for plant equipment.
- Produce drawings for chutes, hoppers, ducts, conveyors, platforms, silos, and pipework.
- Prepare bills of materials and material take-offs for fabrication and construction works.
- Revise and update existing mechanical drawings following plant modifications.
- Prepare project layouts, general arrangement drawings, and construction drawings.
- Support plant expansion, modernization, and reliability improvement projects.
- Generate drawings required during shutdowns and major maintenance activities.
- Assist Project Engineers with technical documentation and project execution packages.
- Conduct site visits to collect field measurements and engineering data.
- Verify actual dimensions before fabrication and installation.
- Prepare and maintain as-built drawings reflecting site conditions.
- Maintain an organized engineering drawing database and archive.
- Ensure drawings are numbered, revised, approved, and properly controlled.
- Update plant layouts, equipment locations, and engineering records after modifications.
- Prepare fabrication drawings for workshop manufacturing activities.
- Liaise with workshop personnel to clarify drawing requirements.
- Support quality control by ensuring drawings reflect engineering specifications.
- Provide technical drawings and information to contractors.
- Review contractor drawings and recommend corrections where necessary.
- Participate in project meetings and technical reviews.
- Comply with plant HSE policies and procedures, including OSHA requirements.
- Conduct site measurements and inspections safely and ensure designs consider plant safety and maintainability.
- Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Drafting, or a related engineering field.
- Advanced AutoCAD 2D and 3D skills.
- Knowledge of SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar CAD software.
- Microsoft Office Suite proficiency.
- 3D modelling software knowledge is an added advantage.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and mechanical layouts.
- Knowledge of fabrication, welding, machining, and steel structures.
- Understanding of cement plant equipment and systems.
- Project drawing preparation and document control skills.
- Material quantity estimation and bill of materials development skills.
- Construction and installation support knowledge.
- Understanding of project execution processes.
- Attention to detail and analytical thinking.
- Effective communication, teamwork, collaboration, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure during shutdowns and major projects.
