Assistant Engineering Manager

The Residence Zanzibar is seeking an experienced Assistant Engineering Manager to support the operation and maintenance of the resort's facilities, equipment and engineering systems. The role involves coordinating preventive maintenance, supervising engineering staff and contractors, troubleshooting technical issues and helping ensure hotel infrastructure operates safely and reliably.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the maintenance and reliable operation of hotel facilities, engineering systems and equipment.
• Support the planning, scheduling and implementation of preventive maintenance programmes.
• Monitor equipment and infrastructure to identify maintenance requirements and potential technical problems.
• Supervise engineering team members and coordinate their daily maintenance activities.
• Coordinate and supervise external contractors carrying out engineering and maintenance work.
• Support troubleshooting, diagnosis and resolution of equipment and facility-related technical issues.
• Ensure engineering activities comply with health and safety requirements.
• Ensure maintenance and engineering activities comply with applicable environmental requirements.
• Follow hotel engineering procedures and operational standards.
• Support efforts to minimize equipment downtime and maintain reliable hotel operations.
• Assist the Engineering Manager with the day-to-day coordination of the engineering department.

Requirements

• Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related engineering field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in engineering operations.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in facilities management.
• Hospitality engineering experience is preferred.
• Strong understanding of facility and equipment maintenance.
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices.
• Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
• Strong technical problem-solving skills.
• Good communication skills.
• Ability to supervise engineering and maintenance teams.
• Ability to coordinate external contractors.
• Understanding of health and safety requirements.
• Ability to work effectively within a hotel or resort operational environment.
