We are seeking an Engineer 3 – UG Mine Planning to develop and optimise underground mine plans, schedules, production forecasts, and budgets at AngloGold Ashanti Tanzania. The role supports short-, medium-, and long-term underground mine planning, from day-to-week execution through the Life of Mine (LOM), ensuring plans maximise orebody value while meeting production, cost, safety, and strategic objectives.
Responsibilities

Develop underground mine schedules covering short-, medium-, and long-term planning horizons.

Deliver accurate physical mine schedules aligned with reserve and resource confidence across the full asset life.

Develop options for the optimal development and extraction of the underground orebody.

Prepare production forecasts and support development of underground mining budgets.

Authorise and oversee mine physical schedules prepared by Planning Engineers.

Analyse mining methods, cutoff grades, mine designs, sequencing, infrastructure, and equipment requirements.

Evaluate the economics of mining and study areas against strategic objectives.
-
Support resource identification and evaluation to optimise the mine's development potential.

Develop mine plans, designs, and executable work packages that maximise underground orebody value.

Evaluate and introduce equipment, technologies, and working methods that improve productivity and reduce costs.

Develop standards, procedures, and guidelines for Mine Planning activities and maintain appropriate document control.

Monitor performance against mine plans and identify and address schedule, grade, and production variances.

Communicate threats to budget delivery and develop mitigation plans to minimise business impacts.

Conduct formal risk assessments for monthly schedules and quarterly forecasts.

Incorporate safety-in-design principles into mine layouts, development sequencing, and underground infrastructure specifications.

Support Operational Excellence initiatives and identify opportunities for measurable value creation.

Prepare comprehensive Life of Mine handover packages covering strategic intent, mine designs, infrastructure specifications, production schedules, financial models, risks, and mitigation strategies.

Contribute to development of Mine Technical Services capability required to deliver annual budgets and the Life of Mine Plan.

Support effective planning, safe work practices, and performance monitoring within the Mine Planning function.

Ensure compliance with SHE&C plans, procedures, management systems, and processes.

Develop and maintain effective relationships with operational teams, business partners, contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders.

Identify development needs of direct reports and support their technical and professional development.

Apply appropriate people-management practices within the underground Mine Technical Services function.

Ensure Mine Scheduling activities comply with established standards, procedures, and guidelines.
Requirements

Degree in Mining Engineering or another relevant discipline.
-
Professional registration with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB).
-
At least 7 years of operational experience in underground mining.

Strong underground mine planning, design, and scheduling experience.
-
Experience with mine planning and design software including Deswik, Studio UG, EPS, Ventsim, Vulcan, and mine stope optimisation tools.

Experience in resource and reserve estimation.
-
Strong knowledge of underground mine design and development sequencing.
-
Experience specifying underground mining infrastructure.
-
Knowledge of mine scheduling and production forecasting.

Experience with mining equipment selection and optimisation.
-
Experience with mining cost estimation and budgeting.

Knowledge of discounted cash flow analysis and mining economics.

Experience managing contractors and consultants.
