Tradesperson 1 – Mechanic

We are seeking a Tradesperson 1 – Mechanic to perform planned and unplanned maintenance on mining equipment at Geita Gold Mine. The role is responsible for safely inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining mining equipment in accordance with approved maintenance procedures, safety requirements, and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform planned and unplanned maintenance using approved safe-working practices and procedures.
• Inspect mining equipment for damage, defects, and mechanical problems.
• Document inspection findings and report identified issues to the Supervisor.
• Carry out assigned maintenance and repair activities according to approved procedures.
• Troubleshoot and repair faults affecting mining equipment.
• Ensure maintenance work complies with GGM safety standards and OEM requirements.
• Report completed maintenance and repair work to the Supervisor.
• Immediately report unsafe equipment, conditions, or working practices.
• Maintain good housekeeping standards within assigned work areas.
• Plan maintenance activities before beginning work.
• Complete assigned maintenance and repair tasks within required deadlines.
• Verify that equipment is safe and operational following maintenance or repairs.
• Safely release maintained equipment back to the Mining Operations team.
• Identify and report conditions that could affect the safe or timely completion of work.
• Stop work when unsafe conditions or practices are identified.
• Work collaboratively with other departments to support equipment availability and mining operations.

Requirements

• Form Four / Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE).
• VETA Trade Test Grade I or Trade Test Level III in Mechanics.
• Diploma or Full Technician Certificate in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering.
• Valid Tanzanian driving licence.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Mechanic maintaining mining equipment.
• Proven experience troubleshooting and maintaining Normet and Caterpillar equipment.
• Ability to read and understand equipment maintenance manuals.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Good understanding of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements.
• Good written and spoken English and Swahili.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
• Good organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Strong commitment to safety, quality, and timely delivery.
• Ability and willingness to stop unsafe work.
• Ability to build effective working relationships across departments.
• No criminal record.
