Equity Bank Tanzania is seeking a Manager – Credit Governance to establish and maintain a strong credit governance, policy, control and oversight framework across the Bank’s entire credit lifecycle.
The successful candidate will ensure that credit activities comply with the Bank’s Credit Policy, Delegated Authority Matrix, regulatory requirements, risk appetite, approved credit processes and governance standards.
Responsibilities

Maintain and continuously strengthen the Bank’s credit governance framework.

Ensure effective governance throughout the credit lifecycle, from origination and appraisal through approval, documentation, disbursement, monitoring, remedial management and recovery.

Ensure appropriate segregation of duties between Business, Credit, Risk, Operations and Recovery functions.

Monitor compliance with approved credit governance standards.
-
Identify governance weaknesses and recommend corrective actions.
-
Maintain a centralized register of key credit governance requirements.
-
Ensure credit governance practices remain aligned with the Bank’s strategy and risk appetite.

Coordinate periodic reviews of credit manuals, product programmes and lending guidelines.

Ensure approved credit policy changes are communicated to relevant stakeholders.

Monitor compliance with the Delegated Credit Authority Matrix.

Review and track credit approval exceptions and authority breaches.
-
Escalate material breaches to the Head of Credit Portfolio Management and relevant governance forums.

Coordinate credit governance forums and ensure committees operate within approved mandates.
-
Coordinate meeting agendas and ensure credit papers are submitted within agreed timelines.

Maintain accurate committee minutes, decisions and action records.

Maintain a centralized tracker of material credit governance decisions and actions.

Establish and maintain a comprehensive credit-exception management framework.

Conduct periodic governance reviews of credit files and processes.

Test compliance with approved credit terms and conditions.

Verify that actual credit facilities reflect approved terms.

Identify recurring control weaknesses and recommend sustainable corrective measures.
-
Track recurring audit findings and monitor implementation of corrective actions.

Ensure audit and regulatory examination findings are addressed within agreed timelines.

Review end-to-end credit processes to identify inefficiencies and control gaps.

Recommend process improvements that strengthen risk controls while improving customer experience.

Collaborate with Credit Operations, Technology and Business teams to automate manual controls.

Support the development of a strong credit risk and governance culture across the Bank.

Use credit experience and findings to support improvements in underwriting standards.
-
Prepare regular Credit Governance Reports for senior management.

Develop and maintain governance dashboards that provide early visibility of emerging weaknesses.
Requirements

University degree in Economics, Business Administration, Finance or a related field.

Minimum of 4–6 years of experience in Credit Administration and Governance.

Strong understanding of credit governance and credit administration.
-
Good understanding of credit policies, controls and governance frameworks.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Strong relationship-building abilities.

Excellent written and spoken English.

Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
