Health and Safety Superintendent

We are seeking an experienced Health and Safety Superintendent to join Perseus Mining Limited at the Nyanzaga Mine Site.

The successful candidate will oversee the implementation and maintenance of the mine's Health and Safety Management System and ensure employees and contractors comply with company safety standards, procedures, best practices, and Tanzanian regulatory requirements.

This is a senior operational mining role focused on health and safety performance during operational readiness and ongoing mine operations at the Nyanzaga Gold Mine.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee health and safety performance across Perseus departments and contractors.
• Ensure compliance with Tanzanian regulatory requirements and company health and safety standards.
• Implement and maintain the established Health and Safety Management System.
• Review and approve contractor health and safety management plans, procedures, and processes.
• Ensure contractor safety systems align with the mine's overall health and safety objectives.
• Monitor contractor compliance and address identified safety gaps.
• Manage the Fatality Risk Management Program.
• Lead safety culture initiatives, including the SHED (Safety Home Every Day) program.
• Lead investigations into significant safety incidents and events.
• Conduct and oversee root-cause analysis following incidents.
• Ensure corrective and preventive actions are properly documented, implemented, and communicated.
• Monitor health and safety performance across mine operations.
• Prepare and provide regular H&S performance reports to management and relevant stakeholders.
• Promote proactive safety practices among employees and contractors.
• Support safe operational readiness and ongoing mine operations.

Requirements

• Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Management or a relevant field.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in mine-site OHS management roles.
• At least 5 years of experience in a senior supervisory or superintendent position.
• Strong knowledge of mining health and safety management systems.
• Experience managing contractor health and safety performance.
• Experience conducting and leading significant incident investigations.
• Strong understanding of root-cause analysis and corrective-action management.
• Experience with fatality-risk management and safety culture programmes.
• Good understanding of applicable Tanzanian occupational health and safety requirements.
• Strong leadership, communication, and safety-performance management capabilities.
