We are seeking an experienced Plant Metallurgist to join Perseus Mining (Tanzania) Limited in Mwanza. The successful candidate will monitor and improve metallurgical plant performance, maximise recovery and throughput, support stable processing operations, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs within the gold processing operation.
Responsibilities
- Monitor metallurgical plant performance and identify opportunities for optimisation.
- Monitor key metallurgical KPIs, including recovery, throughput, efficiency, and processing costs.
- Conduct and coordinate metallurgical test work, plant trials, and data analysis.
- Interpret metallurgical data and translate findings into practical improvements on the plant floor.
- Identify and implement process improvements that increase recovery, throughput, and cost efficiency.
- Support plant commissioning, ramp-up, and optimisation activities.
- Provide technical support and metallurgical expertise to processing operations.
- Work closely with Processing, Maintenance, Technical Services, laboratory teams, and other departments to achieve production targets.
- Prepare accurate and timely metallurgical reports for site leadership and relevant stakeholders.
- Support metallurgical accounting and process-control activities.
- Provide technical guidance and training to metallurgical, laboratory, and operations personnel.
- Support laboratory operations and metallurgical test-work programmes.
- Promote continuous improvement and operational excellence across processing activities.
- Ensure processing and metallurgical activities comply with health, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Participate in processing-related incident investigations and implementation of corrective actions.
- Support environmental and sustainability requirements related to mineral processing.
- Engage with consultants, technology providers, and relevant industry specialists when required.
Requirements
- Tertiary qualification in Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in metallurgy or mineral processing.
- Experience in gold processing operations is preferred.
- Strong practical knowledge of mineral processing and metallurgical plant operations.
- Good understanding of factors affecting recovery, throughput, processing efficiency, and cost.
- Proficiency in metallurgical data analysis, process-control systems, and metallurgical accounting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental systems within processing operations.
- Good communication and technical reporting skills.
- Ability to provide technical guidance, coaching, and support to operational teams.
- Experience with continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives is desirable.
- Experience managing laboratory operations and metallurgical test-work programmes is desirable.
- Understanding of environmental and sustainability considerations related to mineral processing is desirable.
- Strong teamwork, accountability, integrity, and results orientation.
