Senior Mine Geologist

Perseus Mining (Tanzania) Limited is looking for an experienced Senior Mine Geologist to lead daily Grade Control (GC) operations at its open-pit gold mining operation in Mwanza.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing grade control activities, geological modelling, drilling programs, geological data quality, ore-waste classification, and mine-to-mill reconciliation. The role also involves supervising geological teams and ensuring accurate geological information supports safe and efficient mining operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead daily Grade Control (GC) operations within the open-pit mining environment.
• Promote site safety standards and ensure compliance with Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and safe field practices.
• Identify geological hazards within mining areas and support risk management activities.
• Supervise, train, and assign tasks to Mine Geologists and Grade Control Technicians.
• Manage geological logging, wireframing, sampling quality control, and geological database activities.
• Plan and supervise Reverse Circulation (RC) grade control drilling programs.
• Oversee blast-hole sampling activities and maintain sample chain-of-custody procedures.
• Ensure implementation of QA/QC standards, including blanks, duplicates, and repeat samples.
• Update mineralization wireframes and short-range grade control block models.
• Support ore marking, short-term mine planning, and dilution control activities.
• Prepare ore polygons and dig plans for Mining and Survey teams to minimize ore loss.
• Support ROM pad stockpile management and material classification.
• Define and manage NAF/PAF (Non-Acid Forming / Potentially Acid Forming) waste classification processes.
• Validate, upload, and audit drilling, sampling, logging, and assay data within geological databases.
• Lead mine-to-mill and grade control reconciliation activities.
• Analyse grade and tonnage variations, dilution, and ore losses.
• Prepare weekly and monthly geological and technical reports.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline.
• 3–5 years of experience in open-pit mine geology and grade control.
• Gold mining experience is preferred.
• Membership in a recognized geology or mining professional body is an added advantage.
• Valid driver’s license suitable for manual vehicles and open-pit mine-site conditions.
• Experience with short-range geological modelling and grade control processes.
• Proficiency in geological database management systems.
• Knowledge of GC wireframing software and block modelling tools.
• Strong understanding of geological sampling and QA/QC procedures.
