The Tanzania Fisheries Research Institute (TAFIRI) is seeking three Deckhand Auxiliary II (salary scale PGSS 3) to perform deck, maintenance and cleaning duties aboard its research vessels under the supervision of senior crew members.
Responsibilities
- Perform manual skilled duties such as painting the vessel and mending and repairing fishing gear and deck equipment under the supervision and training of senior crew members
- Perform general cleanliness duties
- Assist in handling and operation of deck machinery
- Ferry research equipment to and from the research vessel
- Participate in vessel lubrication duties and carry out minor repairs under guidance of senior crew members
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor
Requirements
- Secondary Education Certificate (CSEE)
- Certificate (NTA Level 4) in Navigation and Fishing Science, Fishing and Fisheries Technology, Master Fisherman, Nautical Science, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
- Tanzanian citizen not above 45 years of age
- Applicants currently employed in, or retired from, the Public Service are not eligible
- Fishing gear mending and repair
- Deck machinery operation
