The Tanzania Fisheries Research Institute (TAFIRI) is seeking two Skipper II (salary scale PGSS 5) to take charge of deck works, deck equipment, navigation aids and life-saving appliances on its research vessels and to supervise junior deck crew.
Responsibilities
- Supervise junior deck crew members in painting the vessel and repairing deck gear and accessories
- Act as overall in-charge of all deck works, deck equipment and stores
- Take charge of repair, maintenance and storage of navigation aids on the bridge
- Take charge of all life-saving appliances and safety equipment
- Assist in deck works, deck equipment and stores
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor
Requirements
- Secondary Education Certificate (CSEE)
- Diploma (NTA Level 6) or Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Navigation and Fishing Science, Marine Transport, Master Fisherman, Nautical Science, Fisheries Science, or equivalent qualification
- Tanzanian citizen not above 45 years of age
- Applicants currently employed in, or retired from, the Public Service are not eligible
- Deck crew supervision
- Navigation aids maintenance
- Marine safety equipment management
